WORKPLACE HEALTH AND SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

COPASST

The Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee is a body that promotes and oversees the institution's occupational health and safety standards and regulations. Through promotional, information, and outreach activities, the COPASST must ensure that the risks of work-related illnesses and accidents are minimized to the minimum possible.

FUNCTIONS

  • Propose to the company or workplace administration the adoption of measures and development of activities that ensure and maintain health in the workplace and work environment.
  • Propose and participate in occupational health training activities for workers, supervisors, and managers of the company or workplace.
  • Collaborate with officials from government occupational health entities in the activities they carry out within the company and receive the corresponding reports as appropriate.
  • Monitor the development of the medical, hygiene, and industrial safety activities that the company must carry out in accordance with the Industrial Hygiene and Safety Regulations and current standards and promote their dissemination and compliance.
  • Collaborate in the analysis of the causes of workplace accidents and occupational diseases and propose to the employer any corrective measures necessary to prevent their occurrence. Evaluate the programs that have been implemented.
  • Periodically visit workplaces and inspect the environments, machines, equipment, appliances, and operations performed by employees in each area or section of the company. Inform the employer of the existence of risk factors and suggest corrective and control measures.
  • Study and consider suggestions presented by employees regarding medical, hygiene, and industrial safety.
  • Serve as a coordinating body between the employer and employees in resolving occupational health-related problems. Process employee complaints related to occupational health.
  • Periodically request reports from the company on accidents and occupational diseases in order to comply with the provisions of this resolution.
  • Elect the Committee Secretary.
  • Maintain a record of the minutes of each meeting and other activities, which will always be available to the employer, employees, and the competent authorities.
